On March 5, 2026, four 100-strong military columns led by the 77th Division of the Burmese Military Council, using kamikazes, artillery, drones and aircraft, entered the villages of Yewin Kone, Khru Kone and Kyaung Kone in Nyaung Lay Bin Township, Bago Region. The Burmese Military Council members took more than 300 people hostage in the villages and tortured and killed them, committing war crimes. As a result of their torture and killings, more than 40 civilians, including three children, one pregnant woman and an elderly woman, died.
